Does this sound like anything you've said before?
I never look good in photos.
I look HORRIBLE in photos.
OMG DELETE THAT IMMEDIATELY!
I always look awkward
What am I supposed to do?
Just take the damn photo and get it over with!
Are you nodding your head? (My favorite thing is to sneakily ask to look at the photo series and then delete the photos I hate when the iphone owner thinks I am admiring his or her amazing work.)
Here's the secret no one really talks about: EVERYONE FEELS THAT WAY.
Even the most famous of famous -- look AWKWARD AND GEEKY when they first start out -- you know...
So many things in my life (good and bad) start with the words:
"So I had an idea. “
I’ve been thinking for SOME TIME about doing a video series. But it’s scary. It’s HARD to sit in front of a camera and be authentic. It’s terrifying to step out behind writing and still photo and be ALIVE. ::laughing::
I’m working on being ALIVE. I need to make that a quote.
So. Here’s to talking about photography and getting your picture taken.
Here’s to being scared and doing it anyway.
So…my inaugural video is about….
Tammy Swales | On Being...
Second. Have you ever gotten to hung up on doing something -- procrastinating, worrying, putting it off for "just one more day" -- so much so that you get incapacitated from actually doing it? Yeah. That NEVER happens to me. ::laughing:: So much time went by between blog posts -- that I completely shut down about it -- I pretended that my blog didn't exist, didn't really matter, no one was really looking at it anyway, right?
Blogging, believe it or not is actually something I LOVE to do. I don't know why I got stuck. I just did.
My team has learned, much like Pavlov's dogs, to cringe when they see me come in like a whirlwind, all wound up, and say: "Okay. So I had this idea in the middle of the night..." Typically that means: A. A lot of work. B. Switching directions from what they are doing to focus on something new C. Tammy is obsessed with thinking about this idea. D. Taking a lot of time E. A lot of work. ::laughing::
A lot of times those ideas kind of fade away because they are impractical for whatever reason, or I notice that someone else has done something kind of along the same...
I have ALWAYS wanted to make one of these videos: have you ever seen the Amazon ad for Kindle? Yeah. So inspiring.
These little clips are not new -- there are some AMAZING artists who are creating some absolutely INSANE stop motion clips.
Check this out.
How could I NOT want to make one?
All I needed was some victims...erm...willing and wonderful clients who wanted to try something completely different.
Enter: Melanie and Mark.
Lesson: Stop Motion takes A LOT LONGER than you will ever expect it too. Plus, since we hadn't tried this before...
