Missed the last confessional? Watch it here!
Welcome to the story of our team bonding (or, should I say, BOLDING!!) in which we decided to take ourselves just a little outside of our comfort zone!
The Public Market has a Food Truck Rodeo (I know right…who knew?!) and since we can all safely say one of our FAVORITE things is eating—we couldn’t pass up the opportunity. So (with cameras, iphones, and video equipment in tow) we set off with only one mission…order as many crazy types of food as we could, eat it all, and document the evidence to share with you!
Sure, you might think attending a food fair doesn’t scream adventurous but you are going to be really surprised by some of the things we found (and then ate!!) And, since I know there will be skeptics, HERE IS THE PROOF!!
I have to say it was a really fun experience. It was SUPER relaxing to get out and have a good time with my team—who means SO MUCH to me—and we really bonded!! Even though it was a super hot night (sweating and eating DO NOT mix), it took us forever to get there (um…no dogs allowed, seriously!! Poor Zoe Swales had to be left behind after she was already on her way ::sigh::) and my team found some strange things (I mean…gizzards and carrot dogs!?!), I wouldn’t change a thing. We all had an AMAZING time together!!
Since I believe anything visual speaks VOLUMES, we put together a little video for you. Here is the essence of our experience…I hope it EMBOLDENS you. I know how good it feels to get a little crazy…to step outside what’s ‘safe’ and JUST HAVE FUN!!
This month we are focusing on being BOLD. Why? Because we’re tired of being complacent. I don’t want to give you the same old same old any more. So that genius team of mine put their heads together and CREATED A NEW STRATEGY FOR BLOGGING. It’s EPIC. And we are EXCITED. We are BOLD!
A big part of our plan is to inspire you. Hell, I want it to keep inspiring ME! So for each month we have different ideas and we’re sharing what we’re ALL about for those thirty (or so) days with you. Our first month out of the gate we are focusing on being BOLD. Appropriate, right? Maybe it’s because I feel like I’m on the edge of something AMAZING and I’m ready to go for it. I’m ready to BOLD IT UP!!
So, what’s the first thing I did this month?!
Well…Set up a TEAM SWALES CONFESSIONAL of course! And it’s super fun. We set up a camera in the back room and LEFT each person there to talk by themselves to the camera. NO PRESSURE!
When we were brainstorming things to talk about every single one of us expressed fear at how awkward we felt in front of the camera. So OBVIOUSLY that’s the first thing we tackled! Watch. And if anything comes of this month it’s to step out of your comfort zone and TRY. No one really cares if you feel silly, or awkward, or uncomfortable. Just TRY. So I’ll ask it…What are YOU going to do that’s bold this month?
Here’s to a month of Boldness! Stay tuned…it’s going to get RIDICULOUS.
Does this sound like anything you’ve said before?
I never look good in photos.
I look HORRIBLE in photos.
OMG DELETE THAT IMMEDIATELY!
I always look awkward
What am I supposed to do?
Just take the damn photo and get it over with!
Are you nodding your head? (My favorite thing is to sneakily ask to look at the photo series and then delete the photos I hate when the iphone owner thinks I am admiring his or her amazing work.)
Here’s the secret no one really talks about: EVERYONE FEELS THAT WAY.
Even the most famous of famous — look AWKWARD AND GEEKY when they first start out — you know why? BECAUSE LOOKING GOOD IN PHOTOGRAPHS TAKES PRACTICE. It is not something you’re inherently born knowing. Sorry to burst THAT particular bubble…
TWENTY YEARS LATER:
So WHY are you putting ALL THIS PRESSURE ON YOURSELF?!
Looking good in photography takes practice — but my team and I have put together a short video to help. Truth is — you are going to FEEL awkward — but LOOK GREAT.
You are WAY TOO BEAUTIFUL TO BE INVISIBLE.
So watch this. And if you like it — SHARE IT WITH OTHERS. And TRY IT. Then let me know. None of this is new information — but sometimes it helps to SEE IT in action. So take a look.
