Welded and Melded. A Sneak Peek. | Rochester NY Wedding Photographer

July 3, 2009

So.  I’m not sure where to begin with this post.

How about this:  I love Jen and Antony.

I do.

I loved them from the moment of meeting and was super excited to be asked to be their wedding photographer!  So, as with all my couples — we planned a fun engagement shoot.  I had good ideas…good location…and this fun couple — and to be perfectly honest — we got some great images that I love!  But…also…Antony was sick…he troupered it out — but still…and it was cold…and rainy…and just…bleah.

So.  I suggested we meet up again when the weather was nicer.  Turns out…Antony is this uber talented welder — and as we talked about it…a series of images developed in my head — and then all I had to do was convince them of how cool it could be.  (note:  I never really know if ideas are going to work — when they are things I haven’t done before there is some element of surprise — but that is what I LIKE about it!)

Last night was the session and I just really really enjoyed myself.  You cannot imagine how HOT I looked in a welding helmet.  Hot I tell you.  Yes.  I’m sure I did look hot.  That’s why everyone was laughing hilariously when I had it on.  But darn it…I FORGOT to take a picture of myself!  ::shaking head sadly::

But.  The pics are amazing.  I love them.  I love everything about them.  And I absolutely LOVE when an idea comes together and WORKS.  Jen and Antony — thank you so much for playing along.  Cannot wait to share the rest of them with you guys – -dont forget to email Jess and get on the calendar!!

Can you imagine how fun and cool their September wedding pics will be?!!  Can’t wait!

We call it getting STACYFIED | Rochester NY Wedding Photographer

July 2, 2009

Stacy at Stacy K Floral got married to the love of her life Ozgur Ercan on May 30th. And seriously…when a person who is in the wedding business gets married — EXPECT AMAZING. Stacy created this incredible, colorful, meaningful, beautiful day — and I was so honored to be a part of it. Stacy and I, it turns out, are a dangerous combination. We generate ideas that will keep us busy into 2099! ::grin:: I had so much fun working with this amazing, beautiful, talented woman. I love her and Ozgur together. They are such great people.

Stacy’s Reception was at Artisan Works — and if you haven’t taken the time to go there — GO. Just…Go. It’s indescribably beautiful. Louis, Victoria and their team made everything run smoothly and gorgeously.

Many many thanks to Rachel from Merge Weddings for being an awesome 2nd shooter — and for taking care of me while I’m doing my usual “she never stops during a wedding” thang…

Without further ado — I give you the slideshow from one of the most incredible weddings I have ever attended or been a part of. Thanks you guys — you know I love you!

Yay! Tam, these photos do a wonderful job of sharing parts of the day. LOVE the cake cutting and throwing money shots – I think those highlight the way you see the world in a DIFFERENT and WONDERFUL way compared to the normal wedding photographer. You put an incredible amount of work, time, effort into getting these fabulous photos and displaying them beautifully – and I’m proud that I could assist you for the day. Cheers to a job well done. (I hope they buy you drinks sometime soon.)

OMG. SRSLY? | Rochester NY Wedding Photographer

June 30, 2009

HOW long has it been since I’ve blogged?  Yeah.  That long.

So…I reached an interesting point where I got so busy that I um…ahem…got a little behind.  And I looked long and hard at where I wanted to be compared to where I was and decided I needed to make some radical changes in the tammyswales.com world.

I needed help.  Serious help.  (Now…those of you who are my FRIENDS can stop laughing and saying “we’ve been telling you that for YEARS Tam” — not THAT kind of help.  ::laughing::)

So.  I created a “help wanted” ad.  And I heard from some AMAZING people who would have been awesome additions to the Tammy Swales brand.  (I love being a brand…it sounds so…cool.)  But once I received Jessica’s letter and resume — really — there was no other choice.  She was made for me.  She….completes me.  ::grin::

So — Jess is my new addition to Tammy Swales Photography and if you are contacting me about photographing you or your wedding or your child or your dog or your fiance or your mother  — you will likely be contacted by a very cheery, sunshiney person who has all the answers, is very organized and basically keeps me on task when I show signs of being distracted.

An upside and maybe..possibly a downside of working for a photographer is that it is almost an OBLIGATION to be photographed.  Repeatedly.  In different scenarios and settings.  I mean…I think I have to add it into the job description.  “Must be guinea pig for any and all photographic ideas for Tammy Swales”.

Today — Jess got her first taste of that.  I wanted some Kick Butt pics of her to announce how cool I think it is that she’s working with me.  And somehow…her boyfriend wandered into some of the images…which possibly means I have to expand the job description to include all relatives of said employee as well.  ::grin::  Of course I am just kidding.

We have a lot to do and a lot to share, Jess and I — so stay tuned — I have been SUPER BUSY and the images — OMG the images are AMAZING.

Without further ado — meet Jess.  She can be reached directly at Jess@tammyswales.com — and I’m sure you will adore working with her as much as I do.

Then I asked Jess to demonstrate how working for me “looked”.  I think she’s going to fit right in around here.

An Illustration of How An Idea Develops | Rochester NY Photographer

February 9, 2009

When I am in the middle of a photo session – I have to admit to not knowing exactly where the shoot is going.  I like to guage the reactions of my clients…what they like…don’t like…what they hope to end up with…how playful they are…on and on.

It’s why every shoot ends up completely different from any other one.

1.5 hours after we finished Holly and Doug’s  shoot — Holly was texting me…”u r killing us…we need to see pics!”  Haha — she’s so cute!   I promised a couple yesterday and a couple more today (but this is IT until we meet again Holly!  ::laughing::).

When I spent time with them during their engagement session — two things quickly became obvious — the first — that they completely ADORE each other:

And second…I found out that they would go along with ANY suggestion I came up with.  How much fun is that?!   We waited a while for access to the taxi inside the Center at High Falls but I think the wait was worth it.  You HAVE to love this image!  And yes, I added the city skyline…it just CALLED out for me to do that…::grin::

Good Golly Ms. Holly! | Rochester NY Wedding Photographer

February 8, 2009

All the stars aligned.

Bells Rang.

People started clapping.

Yeah.  It was THAT session today with Holly and Doug.  They found each other — and thank goodness they found me — I often say — I fall in love with each one of my couples for good reason — my couples and clients get me, my style and are willing to just go with whatever we come up with during their session and on their wedding day.  It’s what makes their images uniquely THEM and I work hard to capture personality and emotion.

I NAILED it with Holly and Doug.  We laughed and giggled and I won’t even TELL you some of the things that happened because…well…you just had to be there.  (okay.  let me just say:  changing clothes…museum…and the words “I’m not shy” were spoken.  yep. )

Wait until you see the Save the Date I have in my head.  But we have to wait to finish it — because it has a part two — which won’t happen until February 22 – but just….wait.

Amazing.

Here’s your sneak peek Holly and Doug!!  Thanks for trusting me today!

So…it was minus 10 degrees today… | Rochester NY Wedding Photographer

January 24, 2009

…and Lindsey and Tony met me at the lake.  Now.  It was a cold day regardless of where you were in Rochester…but the lake.  Now THAT WAS COLD.  Coldest shoot I’ve ever done.  ::laughing::

So check this out.  We did a couple of quick series shoots — then I promised them a nice warm studio if we could just go to the amusement park around the corner (crazy thy name is Tammy Swales ::grin::) … I made them stay in the car while I got my light and equipment out…and the light STUCK to my fingers.  THAT IS COLD.

So…needless to say…we didn’t stay long.  But seriously, can you tell it’s minus 10 degrees outside?  Look at how cute Lindsey is in the face of such horrid conditions!!

Hot Pics on a Cold night in Boston | Rochester NY Engagement Photographer

Bethany and Patrick.

How I love them.  Seriously, these two just made me crack up laughing the entire time we were freezing our butts off in downtown Boston.  Egads it was cold!  (how often do you get to use the word egads, anyway?)

But we worked it out.  You can tell from the pics what fun they are — and these are only the sneak peeks.  The entire session is hilarious and touching and sweet.  Patrick and Bethany are getting married at Chapel Hill and Artisan Works in Rochester this July — so I  am expecting it to be a LOT warmer the next time we hang out.  Yeah baby!

How I love them.
