So…it was minus 10 degrees today… | Rochester NY Wedding Photographer

January 24, 2009

…and Lindsey and Tony met me at the lake.  Now.  It was a cold day regardless of where you were in Rochester…but the lake.  Now THAT WAS COLD.  Coldest shoot I’ve ever done.  ::laughing::

So check this out.  We did a couple of quick series shoots — then I promised them a nice warm studio if we could just go to the amusement park around the corner (crazy thy name is Tammy Swales ::grin::) … I made them stay in the car while I got my light and equipment out…and the light STUCK to my fingers.  THAT IS COLD.

So…needless to say…we didn’t stay long.  But seriously, can you tell it’s minus 10 degrees outside?  Look at how cute Lindsey is in the face of such horrid conditions!!

And…as promised…they got rewarded with a nice warm building…LOVE the pics we got you two — hope you love these images as much as I do!

Well, they look absolutely fabulous! And – they don’t look cold! How do you do it?

I love the blue sky, even though I’m pretty sure it wasn’t blue in downtown yesterday. You work magic :]

Um…who looks that cute in -10 degree weather? Insane. Nice images. what a cute couple. I love the amusement park shot–fun colors, composition, playfulness. Is the last shot from inside your studio? (Jealous!)

Hot Pics on a Cold night in Boston | Rochester NY Engagement Photographer

Bethany and Patrick.

How I love them.  Seriously, these two just made me crack up laughing the entire time we were freezing our butts off in downtown Boston.  Egads it was cold!  (how often do you get to use the word egads, anyway?)

But we worked it out.  You can tell from the pics what fun they are — and these are only the sneak peeks.  The entire session is hilarious and touching and sweet.  Patrick and Bethany are getting married at Chapel Hill and Artisan Works in Rochester this July — so I  am expecting it to be a LOT warmer the next time we hang out.  Yeah baby!

How I love them.

Tammy Swales Where You Been Girl? Boston…Hartford…Mystic…oh my | Rochester NY Wedding Photographer

I had sooo sooo soo much fun traveling this past week.  Did you miss me?

I got to hang out with some awesome photography friends who are very dear to me…shoot some beautiful brides and brides-to-be…rock out an engagement session in downtown Boston at NIGHT (more about that later)  and generally just laugh and play and make new friends.

Perfect.

My friend Rachel from www.mergeweddings.com has a new studio.  So we got to spend time there and meet some BEAUTIFUL girls for some bridal portrait sessions.  How much fun was that?  Well…take a look at the images and you can imagine they were kick-butt sessions.

Holy Smokes! These are amazing. I can’t even pick a favorite–they’re so beautiful. Love the treatment on the bottom left a lot. The middle one with the veil (?) in the foreground is gorgeous and so different. Love the sassiness in the bride on the top left. Awesome set!

You know sometimes…I exceed my own expectations | Fairport NY Family Photographer

January 14, 2009

So. Yeah.

Being in client meetings can be stressful.  Because you are presenting your work (yes, I did just start a sentence with because…deal with it.  ::grin::) and you want people to be REALLY impressed with you…your skills as a photographer…your image…the whole package.  Because (there it is again.  this is really a long run on sentence.) photography is very personal — it’s YOUR viewpoint you are showing people…so sometimes when they don’t like an image it’s hard not to get to wrapped up in feeling it personally.  But that’s a WHOLE OTHER BLOG POST.  And has absolutely no relevence to this story.

Let’s just reiterate the first sentence:  being in clients meetings CAN be stressful.  This meeting wasn’t — I was relaxed — which is usually dangerous as you will see…

So I’m at this client meeting today.  He’s looking at the photographs…he’s liking them, blah blah blah.  I put together two separate storyboards for him to look at. (for the uninformed – storyboards are multiple images printed as one. )   I am going to share them both with you right now because…well…I love one of them to pieces and the other is completely critical to this blog post.

LOVE:

Relevant to story:

captain obvious You know sometimes...I exceed my own expectations | Fairport NY Family Photographer

He’s looking at the second one and saying — “…you know.  I think I’d like to put that over by the guitars.”  I nod my head wisely.  And then I say…in my most sophisticated Tammy way:  “You know.  That would look great in this room.  The colors would be PERFECT.”  (or some variation of that.  but you get it.)

Um…we were sitting in the room this picture was taken.  And he was talking about hanging it over on the wall nearby.  So yeah.  DUH.

Of COURSE THE COLORS WOULD BE PERFECT TAMMY.  ::laughing::

….

Now.  GOOD CLIENTS would just nod their heads in agreement and move one.  But oh no.  Not JR.  He looks at me with his eyebrows up and says:  Thank You Captain OBVIOUS!

::pause a moment while I crack up laughing all over again::

Captain Obvious.  Who SAYS that?!  ::laughing::

Go ahead.  I know. Those who really know me are thinking “classic Tammy moment”.  My best friend saysthat  my life is a series of Seinfeld episodes.   I’m okay with that.  At least I’m laughing a LOT!

…Captian Obvious.  ::shaking head.  still laughing::

Thanks for letting me share.  Later I may share more pics…

Photographers Photographing Photographers | Headshot Photographer Rochester NY

January 13, 2009

I want you to understand…there is absolutely NO PRESSURE involved when asked to take another photographer’s headshots.  Absolutely NONE.  I swear.  I wasn’t worried at all.

Yeah.

Erich Camping is about to blow out an amazing new photography website – except for one thing.  He needed a picture of himself.  One he liked.  One he could say — yep.  that’s me.  that’s who I am.  that’s how I roll.

I’m not sure he’s going to say that about THESE pictures but we sure had a ton of fun trying out some new ideas and poses and talking…a lot.  Cuz you know…we’re both photographers.  ::laughing::

Here’s your sneak peek Erich!  (I’ll let you guess which one is MY personal favorite…not too difficult is it?!)

These are great! I met Erich a year ago at a workshop in KY. Such an awesome character. Classy and cool. These shots of him are great. I can’t wait to see his new site. It should be ready any day! (BTW–shot #3 kicks serious a**.)

Theater Major Mercy High School | Senior Pictures Rochester NY

January 11, 2009

Okay.  So.  You might recognize Ms. A from a previous photoshoot.  She’s a current senior and I had the honor of taking her senior pictures over the summer.  Talk about the camera loving a FACE!

Now…hard to believe…but she’s getting ready for college and gathering her applications together.  So cool, professional but DYNAMIC headshots were needed.  So again, I was honored that she and her mom called me to take on the challenge.

So so unbelievably yummy.  LOVE.

Sneak peeks are so much fun for me!

The Nicest Couple Ever. And More. | Rochester NY Weddings Chapel Hill Inn on Broadway

So.  Kelly and Craig.  The title says it all.  We met way way long before I was really involved in my own Tammy Swales Photography world — they cheered me, believed in me and encouraged me.  I was inspired by their thoughtfulness, happiness and pure joy of being together and in love.

I have more to share about their wedding — they got married at Chapel Hill in Rochester NY and had their reception at the Inn on Broadway — but to begin with I just wanted to celebrate how much I love these two.  Kelly and Craig – thank you so much.  You have changed me in ways that I can’t describe and I am so grateful!

Kelly’s Dad seeing her for the first time in her dress.  I love the synergy between these two!

One of Kelly’s portrait location requests was going downtown and getting some fun pics with buildings in the background.  LOVE!

They rented this cool trolley from Diamond Limousine.   It didn’t hurt that the sun was in a perfect location for this shot, don’t you think?
